Moira Rose is a classic triangle shawl with a bit of extra backbone, thanks to the column of lace running down the centre. With one main lace motif repeated throughout the shawl – and some simple eyelet rows for a bit of visual interest – this shawl is also far easier than it looks.
The Moira Rose shawl is worked with laceweight and mohair yarn held together, making it a great knit to play with colour. While the same laceweight is used throughout the shawl, the mohair is changed for the full lace section, meaning you can go for a striking contrast, a gentle faded marl, or something between the two. You can also work the shawl in a 4ply yarn held single, if mohair isn’t your thing.

The Moira Rose shawl follows standard top-down triangle shawl construction, beginning with a garter tab cast-on that sets up the central lace column. There’s a 3-stitch garter border at the start and end of each row, with yarn over increases worked at the start and end of the main panel, and either side of the centre column.
The lace pattern is written out in full, and fully charted.
Suggested yarn: The sample uses DyeBath laceweight in Ballet (yarn A) (800m per 100g) and Silky Mohair in Wedding Dress (yarn B) and Ornamental Cabbage (yarn C) (425m per 100g) held together. If you prefer using 4ply, you will need 800m total – or 400m each of two colours (yarns D and E) – of 4ply yarn.
Suggested needles (and notions): 3.25mm (US 3) long circular needle, 6 stitch markers, tapestry needle.
Gauge: Gauge isn’t critical, but the sample measures 22st and 28 rows to 4in/10cm.
Finished size: The finished size of the shawl depends on your gauge and how aggressively you block the shawl. As a guide, my sample has a wingspan of 140cm and a depth of 65cm.
